LWCD-30610MN-06 24V DC Cross Flow Fan for Trench Heaters

Table of Contents

Customer Requirement

A European HVAC OEM is designing a series of high-end trench convectors for commercial office spaces. The core application requirement is to form a uniform and stable airflow distribution on the surface of the heat exchanger to meet the indoor comfort needs.

A new tangential fan that has a 664mm overall maximum length constraint. The unit had to operate on the building’s 24 V DC control bus. It needed to deliver a target airflow of at least 150 m³/h against a low system impedance of approximately 18 Pa. The maximum permissible noise level was 35 dB(A) in occupied environments. The integration plan required the fan to accept a 0-10V analog signal from the central thermostat for variable speed control.

The primary requirement of the client is to obtain the 3D STEP model for the purpose of preliminary design verification. After confirmation, the process will proceed to prototype development and subsequent procurement procedures.

Engineering Solution

A cross flow fan can satisfy the need for a wide, low-velocity air curtain. Longwell’s application engineering team identified the LWCD-30 Series as the appropriate platform, featuring a 30 mm impeller diameter designed for low-pressure applications. To meet the 158 m³/h airflow requirement at 2400 RPM, a 610 mm active impeller length was necessary. The housing and mounting points were designed to keep the total assembly length to 664 mm. The final model selection is LWCD-30610MN-06.

The motor selection was a 3-phase brushless DC motor with integrated drive electronics. This choice natively supports the required 24V input and 0-10V/PWM speed control, eliminating the need for an external controller. The cross flow fan uses high-precision ball bearings. Its operating temperature range from -25°C to +60°C. The final solution was verified through the client’s 3D model. All performance targets were achieved, enabling immediate integration.

Why Longwell for Trench Heaters?

  • Rapid Support: The customer’s 3D STEP model was delivered within 24 hours. The rapid response of this project is attributed to the fact that the standard components meet the customer’s requirements. For custom length or specific performance variations, Longwell provides a 90-day NPI process. It is significantly faster than the 12-18 weeks timeline among European suppliers.
  • Cost-Effective Engineering: The LWCD-30 series is more cost-effective than that of other suppliers, enabling OEMs to win competitive advantages without sacrificing quality.
  • Global Compliance Certifications: The LWCD-30 series has CE (TÜV), UL, and RoHS certifications. They were pre-qualified for the OEM’s primary target markets in Europe and North America. This can eliminate certification risk and associated project delays for the customer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the typical lead time for a production order of 500 units of the LWCD-30610MN-06?

A: For standard make-to-order volumes such as ≤500 units, our typical lead time is 15-30 days from order confirmation.

Q: Can the operating voltage be modified to 12VDC or 48VDC for a different application?

A: Yes. The motor windings can be customized for other DC voltages. This special voltage requirement has an MOQ of at least 100 units and is managed through our 90-day New Product Introduction (NPI) process.

Q: Does the FG signal output provide actual RPM or just a pulse train?

A: The output of the FG signal provides a pulse train, whose frequency is directly proportional to the fan’s rotational speed. The control circuit can calculate the actual rotation speed value after receiving the pulse signal.
