Agriculture Ventilation
One-Stop Fan Platform
From the poultry house to the greenhouse to the vertical farm: dedicated 24–50 in exhaust fans, EC axial platforms to Ø1000 mm, EC backward-curved centrifugal, duct and tangential circulation fans — with the control interfaces (0-10 V / PWM / Modbus RTU / BACnet MS-TP) that modern climate computers expect.
Why LONGWELL for Agriculture Ventilation
Agriculture is not a souped-up HVAC duty. It is humidity swings, ammonia, dust, washdown, 24/7 part-load operation and electricity bills that decide farm margins. We build the platform around those five realities.
24–50 in Poultry & Livestock Exhaust
LWPV is purpose-built agricultural exhaust hardware — cone and discharge variants sized in inches the way barn builders buy: 24, 29, 30, 36, 44, 50 in. Three sub-series: LWPVE poultry, LWPVB large-diaphragm, LWPVA compact.
LWPVE-600(24″) → LWPVB-1270(50″) · 18 frame variantsEC Where It Pays
LWBE3G bionic backward-curved impellers run 4–6 dB(A) quieter than conventional wheels, cut high-frequency sound pressure 50%+ and save 8–12% energy — with +25–30% stall margin for dusty ag airstreams.
Static efficiency 73–82% · ≤1,800 Pa · 500–30,000 m³/hBuilt for the Barn Environment
Agricultural air corrodes. EC platforms offer IP44 through IP68 variants, IP-code verified to IEC 60529, with −25°C cold-start reporting — the combination barns, greenhouses and stores impose.

6 Agriculture Segments, One Platform Logic
Each segment differs in static pressure, duty cycle and corrosion exposure — but they share the same EC control layer, which is what makes a single-supplier BOM practical.
Poultry & Swine House Exhaust
Tunnel and cross-ventilation wall exhaust, 24–50 in class, continuous duty at part load with high static pressure in tunnel mode.
Dairy & Large Barn Ventilation
High-volume exchange plus interior circulation for heat-stress control; milk yield is directly airflow-sensitive.
Greenhouse Air Movement
Horizontal airflow along the canopy, gutter circulation, inlet and duct distribution; condensation control without leaf wetting.
Harvest & Post-Harvest Storage
Field-heat removal, pile drying, pre-cooling and ripening rooms — high-humidity cycles and long unattended runs.
Vertical Farming & Grow Rooms
Layer-by-layer uniform airflow, compact envelopes, low noise in occupied buildings, LED-loop heat pickup.
Aquaculture & Seafood Processing
Aeration blower duty and processing-room ventilation in humid, salt-laden air; reliability margins matter more than peak efficiency.

Four Segments, Requirement by Requirement
The three things that actually go wrong in each segment, and the configuration that answers them.
Poultry & Swine House Ventilation
Tunnel + cross-ventilation wall exhaust. Fan electricity is the largest controllable cost in an enclosed barn; part-load behaviour decides the bill.
Heat stress eats productivity
Broiler weight gain, egg output and milk yield drop under heat waves; tunnel houses need dependable exchange at high static pressure, not nameplate peak flow.
Ammonia & welfare rules
EU welfare codes and emissions limits push toward better-controlled airflow; fixed-speed fans cycling on/off cannot follow the curve.
Dust, feathers, washdown
Impellers foul and housings get hosed. Corrosion protection and IP selection decide year-3 performance, not year-1 brochures.
| Requirement | Recommended configuration | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wall exhaust 24–36 in class | LWPVE-600(24″)T-03 / LWPVE-800(29″)T-03 / LWPVE-900(30″)T-01/T-02 / LWPVE-1000(36″)T-01/T-03 | T cone variants for tunnel duty; S variants for standard discharge |
| Large-house primary exhaust 44–50 in | LWPVE-1220(44″)T-01/T-02 · LWPVB-1270(50″)T(S)-01 · LWPVE-1295S-05 | Fewer, larger fans cut wall penetrations and wiring points per house |
| Demand-driven exchange | LWAE3G EC axial Ø630–1000 with 0-10 V / Modbus RTU | Variable speed follows the climate controller instead of cycling; EC vs fixed-speed savings are the core of barn-ventilation economics |
| Interior circulation / pit boost | LWBE3G355-102NT-25 / -188NT-26 / -188NT-29 | Bionic EC centrifugal, −4–6 dB(A); quieter barns are calmer livestock |
| Cold-climate start | −25°C cold-start T1 report on request | Unheated houses still need ventilation in northern winters |
Frame-level P-Q curves are issued per part number from the AMCA 210 / ISO 5801 bench — send the house static-pressure plan and we return curves per frame.
Greenhouse Ventilation & Circulation
Uniform canopy airflow, condensation control, integration with screens and cooling pads. China alone maintains more than 2 million hectares of protected horticulture.
Temperature gradients
Horizontal airflow must equalize the canopy line without leaf flutter that drives transpiration stress and disease pathways.
Humidity & condensation
Stagnant zones grow fungus. Continuous low-velocity circulation beats intermittent blast ventilation for fungal-pressure control.
Corrosive, humid electrics
Misting, fertilizer vapours and 24/7 duty punish open-frame motors; plastic duct hardware survives where sheet metal rusts.
| Requirement | Recommended configuration | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Canopy-length air curtain | LWAC450 tangential circulation fan | Even, gentle airflow band along the row; reference-proven in a 32 ha Dutch greenhouse |
| Row / duct distribution | LWDA-160(6.3″)S-PBN-002 / LWDA-200(8″)S-PBN-001/002/002S | Plastic housing, humidity-tolerant, low cost at distribution scale |
| Inlet / gable exchange | LWAA2E250S-7MKB-19 · LWAA4E250B-5MEW-23 · LWAE3G250SS/ST variants | 250 mm external-rotor axial: AC for budget builds, EC where control is wanted |
| Primary exchange | LWAE3G EC axial Ø450–1000 | 90–400 Pa class covers pad-and-fan greenhouse static pressure |
Harvest & Post-Harvest Storage
Field-heat removal, pile drying, pre-cooling, ripening rooms. Long unattended cycles in high-humidity air — and shelf life depends on them.
Drying without overdrying
Airflow per cubic metre of storage must be metered by stage; fixed speed either under-delivers early or over-dries the pile edge.
Humidity cycling
Condensation on cold surfaces followed by warm moist cycles is standard duty; IP and insulation class are not optional.
Unattended reliability
A failed fan in an onion or potato store is a write-off event; bearing life and monitoring feedback carry direct economic weight.
| Requirement | Recommended configuration | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Free-flow storage aeration | LWAE3G EC axial (duty-dependent size) | IE4+ efficiency at 90–400 Pa; speed control stages the drying curve |
| Ducted / filtered duty | LWBE3G EC centrifugal Ø355–710 | Up to 1,800 Pa static for filters, coolers and long duct runs |
| Monitoring & protection | Modbus RTU / BACnet MS-TP feedback + 12 built-in protections | The controller sees the fan, not just a relay; alarms before the pile is at risk |
| Packaged equipment OEM | LWBE3G190-072PS-02 / -072PS-12 (bracket) | Bracket-mounted 190 mm EC centrifugal for dehumidifiers and storage HVAC |
Vertical Farming & Grow Rooms
Layer airflow, LED-loop heat pickup, dehumidification coupling — inside buildings where people work and noise is a lease clause.
Uniformity across trays
Low-velocity, evenly distributed airflow prevents microclimate layers between rack levels; cross-flow geometry is naturally suited.
Noise in occupied space
Grow rooms sit inside urban buildings and run 18–24 h; tonal high-frequency noise is the usual complaint driver.
Biofilm in wet housings
Mushroom and leafy-green chambers historically suffer 12–18 month housing biofilm contamination — then annual replacement.
| Requirement | Recommended configuration | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rack-level uniform breeze | LWBE3G Ø200 EC, 50 units per rack | CFD-derived: 50 compact fans/rack outperform 25 larger fans at equal total airflow |
| LED hot-zone heat rejection | LWAE3G Ø500 EC axial, IP55 | Heavy continuous duty with CO₂ enrichment tolerance |
| Rack / tent airflow | LWCA-40290 tangential · LWDA-160/200 duct | Even low-velocity sheet flow at slim envelope and low noise |
| Housing hygiene | Anti-fungal coated housings (silver-ion / copper-ion polymer + epoxy + ED-coat) | Standard on the CEA build in the reference case; eliminates the 12–18 month replacement cycle |
Agriculture Ventilation 2026–2030: What the Market Data Says
Sourced figures — market research and manufacturer-published data — so a business plan doesn't rest on vibes. Each card states where the number comes from and what it means for fan selection.
Axial dominance, smart VFD rising
Global agricultural ventilation fan market; axial fans hold 62.4% share; smart variable-frequency fans climb from 14.8% (2025) to 19.3% penetration (2026) — the fastest-growing product type. Livestock = 71.6% of demand.
Source: GEP Research, Global Agricultural Exhaust Fan Industry Report (2026)Part load is where the money is
Commercial barn EC retrofit deployments report 40–50% lower ventilation energy versus fixed-speed baselines, achieved through demand-driven control rather than peak-efficiency claims. Ventilation electricity can reach 70% of total barn operating cost — which is why part-load behaviour, not nameplate airflow, decides the payback case.
Source: Expert Market Research, Agricultural Ventilation Fans Market (2026)Protected cultivation is the growth engine
Greenhouse + plant factory hold 18.9% of demand and grow 14.7% YoY; China maintains over 2 million hectares of protected horticulture; circulation and dehumidification retrofits lead the spend.
Sources: GEP Research (2026); Credence Research, Agricultural Ventilation Fans MarketSensors move into the barn standard
Controllers reacting in real time to temperature, humidity, CO₂ and NH₃ are becoming barn standard, and climate-computer vendors are consolidating software and analytics capabilities. Connectivity structurally lifts demand for variable-speed, controller-linked fans.
Source: Expert Market Research via MarketResearch.com (2026)Welfare and emissions codes bite
EU welfare and ammonia/emissions codes effectively mandate reliable mechanical ventilation; high-efficiency products exceed 45% of EU market share (2026). Standardized wall frames let fixed-speed fleets retrofit without civil works.
Sources: Expert Market Research; GEP Research (2026); Credence ResearchThe price gap is narrowing
With EC domestic substitution accelerating, the EC-vs-AC price gap is shrinking and retrofit payback is moving toward 5–7 years, while heat-stress avoidance adds indirect yield return. Figures are industry estimates, not LONGWELL measurements.

8,000 m² Vertical Farm LED Hot-Zone HVAC · 720 EC Fans
A composite reference case built from representative urban vertical-farming facility builds: anti-fungal coated IP55 axial fans for LED hot-zone HVAC, plus compact circulation blowers for 12-tier grow racks — hitting an urban noise ordinance and +18% yield versus the prior airflow design.
720 EC fans, 12 tiers, one noise ordinance
1 · Challenge
- LED grow lights at 700 W/m² total lighting density — 50–70% becomes heat that must be removed (300–500 W/m²).
- Grow zone 22–24°C / 65–85% RH / 1,500 ppm CO₂ enrichment, 24/7 continuous duty.
- Mushroom and leafy-green chambers historically suffer 12–18 month fan-housing biofilm contamination — replaced annually.
- Urban acoustic constraint at the fenceline; rack-level circulation must give a uniform leaf-level breeze with no stagnant zones across 12 tiers.
2 · Solution architecture & bill of materials
120 LWAE3G-500-IP55-Coated units on LED hot-zone HVAC heat-reject and return-air paths; 600 LWBE3G-200-EC-Coated units in grow-rack manifolds for uniform leaf-level breeze across the 12-tier rack. Anti-fungal coating (silver-ion or copper-ion infused polymer + epoxy + ED-coat) on all housings as standard — eliminating the biofilm cycle that traditionally forces 12–18 month replacement.
| LONGWELL SKU | Type | Qty | Key spec |
|---|---|---|---|
| LWAE3G-500-IP55-Coated | EC axial HVAC fan | 120 units | Ø500 mm · IP55 · anti-fungal coating standard · −40°C to +60°C ambient · 1,500 ppm CO₂ continuous tolerance |
| LWBE3G-200-EC-Coated | Compact rack-level circulation blower | 600 units (50/rack × 12) | Ø200 mm · anti-fungal coating standard · IP55 |
3 · Modelled outcomes — typical range
How to read these figures: the values above are modelled for this composite scenario — a planning range, not measured results from one named project. Verified project evidence is in section 6 below.
4 · Implementation timeline
| Stage | What happened |
|---|---|
| Month 0 | Facility build commits to anti-fungal coating standard |
| Month 1 | Sample units to the facility commissioning team |
| Month 2 | PO for 120 + 600 units |
| Month 3 | First batch ships, 4 weeks production |
| Month 4 | Facility installation and commissioning |
| Month 18 | +18% yield improvement validated against the prior comparable facility design |
5 · Engineering lessons
- Anti-fungal coating as standard — not an optional add-on — was the single biggest predictor of long-term reliability in CEA service. Prior installations with coating as an option ran 12–18 month replacement cycles; on this build, zero biofilm events in 24 months.
- Uniform leaf-level breeze across the 12-tier rack was the single biggest yield driver. CFD showed 50 compact fans per rack outperforming 25 larger fans at the same total airflow.
- +18% yield recovered the fan CapEx in 5 months — far faster than an energy-savings case alone would justify.
- 38 dB(A) at 4 m fenceline met the urban noise ordinance for a downtown site, which removed the suburban-siting and transport penalty from competing designs.
- 1,500 ppm continuous CO₂ (with bursts to 3,500 ppm during fertilization) was validated on the motor electronics — no degradation after 24-month service.

Zimbabwe — FAO agricultural ventilation programme
DELIVEREDSupplied LWAA4E400S-5MEB-21 — Ø400 mm AC axial fan, 220 V 50 Hz, 180 W, 0.85 A, 1,350 rpm, IP44, Class F, 6 µF, with wire guard.
Delivered under a United Nations FAO project, which meant third-party inspection and documentation had to be right before despatch — the fan spec was never the difficult part. CE and EAC marks on the rating plate; the label carries the product URL for field verification.
United States — vertical farming rack ventilation
SAMPLINGWhy cross-flow: a growing rack needs an even air curtain along the full tray width, which is what a tangential wheel produces — an axial fan gives a jet with dead zones at the tray ends.
Custom guards and mounting brackets were evaluated with the fan so the assembly drops straight into the rack frame.
Australia — agricultural drying equipment
DELIVEREDHigh static duty in a compact upgrade: the replacement had to hold pressure through a loaded drying bed while fitting the existing cabinet.
The AC axial fan supplied for a greenhouse and agricultural ventilation programme — LWAA4E400S-5MEB-21, 220 V 50 Hz, 0.85 A, 180 W, 1,350 rpm, IP44, Class F, 6 µF, CE and EAC marked, build date 2024.11 — shows the same rule: grow-room and greenhouse ventilation runs continuously in warm, humid, high-dust air, so IP class and insulation class matter more than peak airflow.
Fan performance figures are quoted from LONGWELL controlled datasheets and tested per AMCA 210/211 methods; third-party reports available on request. EC versus AC energy saving is approximately 30%, higher under strongly varying load — confirm against your own load profile. Final selection must be confirmed against the actual duty point (airflow / static pressure / voltage / control method) and project validation.
