Great Britain is consulting on ecodesign rules for 125 W to 500 kW industrial fans. OEM buyers can prepare performance, repair and spare part evidence now.

Performance, repair and spare evidence for the Great Britain industrial fan consultation Information checked 26 October 2026
Decision summary and market boundary
The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero opened its industrial fan consultation on 16 October 2026 and added draft regulations on 23 October. Responses are due by 24 December 2026. The proposal applies to Great Britain, meaning England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland requires a separate market assessment.
This is a consultation, not a new rule already in force. Scope, values, dates and transitional provisions may change after the government reviews responses. Buyers can prepare model classification, duty point data, drive configurations and service records now, but should not place an unqualified compliance statement in a contract before the final instrument is published.
Fans covered by the proposal
The consultation concerns industrial fans with electrical input power from 125 W to 500 kW. It distinguishes standard fans, fans integrated into other products and fans sold as replacements. The proposal draws on Commission Regulation EU 2024 1834 as amended by 2025 2481, but the final Great Britain instrument will control Great Britain compliance.

How the proposal changes a purchasing file
The proposal goes beyond a higher minimum efficiency. It links performance data, repair access and long term information management in one evidence chain.
Best efficiency point and inherent speed
The consultation proposes that the best efficiency point be determined at inherent speed, with a consistent fan, motor, drive and test configuration. A single peak efficiency percentage is not enough for a request for quotation. Buyers should state airflow, whether pressure is static or total, speed, electrical input power, installation category and the test configuration before comparing bids.
Part load information
The proposal would introduce part load information from 1 July 2027. That date remains subject to the final rule. For AHUs, industrial ventilation and cooling equipment using a VSD or multiple speeds, the purchasing file should request performance at several representative speeds or loads and record the controller and parameter version used for the test.
Technical information period
The consultation proposes digital technical and performance information with long term availability. The draft materials refer to a twenty year information period. A manufacturer should identify who retains curves, test reports, component configurations, software versions and engineering changes after a model is discontinued.
Spare parts and repair
The proposal addresses spare motors below 10 kW, impellers, variable speed drives, sensors and bearings. The consultation materials propose availability within two years after a model enters the market, continued availability for ten years after the last unit is placed on the market and supply normally within six weeks. Repair information and software or firmware updates also have proposed periods. These are not final obligations, and commercial warranties remain separate.
Checklist for an OEM buyer
1. Build a Great Britain model list and classify each item as a standard fan, integrated fan or replacement.
2. Fix the evidence boundary for each model, including impeller, motor, transmission, VSD, sensor and controller.
3. Request best efficiency point, inherent speed, airflow, static or total pressure, electrical input power, efficiency and installation category.
4. For variable speed products, request a part load curve that covers the expected operating region and record the controller and parameter version.
5. For integrated equipment, retain the host model, original fan model, replacement relationship and first placement date.
6. Add spare part lists, repair information, software version, discontinuation date and response owner to the supplier data sheet.
7. Recheck scope, thresholds, marking and dates after the final Great Britain instrument is published.
Proposed transition points to monitor
The consultation describes a transition linked to the date on which a future statutory instrument is made. Current requirements would continue during the initial period, followed by the proposed new regime about six months later. The materials also describe a possible arrangement to 24 July 2027 for certain fan models integrated into other products before 24 July 2026, and a conditional replacement fan route to 24 July 2037.
Every date and condition must be checked against the final instrument. A manufacturing year alone does not establish an exception, and a replacement provision should not be extended to a new design or new host product.
Longwell evidence boundary
For a quotation, ask Longwell to prepare the performance curve, electrical input at the stated duty, drive arrangement, control interface, materials, ambient limits and serviceable part list for the exact candidate model. Each item must remain tied to a model, configuration and test condition. Compliance with a future Great Britain rule can be confirmed only after the final legal text is published and the responsible party has assessed the complete product and market route.
This guide does not claim that an unverified Longwell model already complies with the proposal, and it does not substitute EU ErP evidence for a final Great Britain assessment.
Frequently asked purchasing questions
Has the consultation already changed Great Britain law
No. The response period closes on 24 December 2026. Companies can prepare data and contract fields, but the proposal should not be stated as an obligation already in force.
Does EU 2024 1834 compliance automatically prove Great Britain compliance
No. The proposal uses the EU regime as an important reference, but the final Great Britain instrument, transition and enforcement documents will control the assessment.
Is a fan integrated into an AHU automatically exempt
No. The consultation describes defined conditions and transition provisions for integrated fans. Retain the host model, integration date, original fan configuration and replacement purpose before relying on any provision.
What performance data should an RFQ request
At minimum, request airflow, pressure type, speed, electrical input power, efficiency, best efficiency point, installation category, test method and the complete drive configuration. Variable speed products also need part load points.
Send the duty point for an evidence review
Send the destination market, equipment type, airflow, static or total pressure, operating speed, input power, ambient temperature, annual hours, control method, certification target and intended standard version to sales@longwellfans.com. Longwell will confirm which curves, components and records can be supplied for the exact model and configuration.
