Customer Requirement
A telecom customer needed the wide, even airstream only a cross-flow fan can deliver, but in a fixed envelope (250 mm overall, 190 mm impeller). Their previous design used our standard LWCD-45190MN-06; the new system needed more airflow — specifically 48V DC native operation and 2900 RPM (45% over the stock 2000 RPM model), with 0–10V analog speed control and long-life ball bearings.
What we changed.
- Motor winding — the 3-phase BLDC stator was rewound for 48V. No external DC-DC converter, which would have added cost and a failure point.
- SmartEC™ controller — power input stage reworked for 48V; firmware retuned to hold 2900 RPM on the new winding; 0–10V interface programmed with a linear response curve.
- Impeller — FEA confirmed the existing ø45 mm aluminum impeller was within safety margin at the higher speed. No new tooling, no timeline slip.
Result. Same mechanical footprint as the original fan, new part number LWCD-45190HN-07-00. All targets met — higher airflow, 48V native, variable control, drop-in replacement.
Technical Specifications
The customized LWCD-45190HN-07-00 fan was developed with the following confirmed specifications. Aerodynamic performance data (airflow, static pressure) was measured in accordance with AMCA 210-16 standards during validation testing.
| Model | LWCD-45190HN-07-00 |
| Voltage (VDC) | 48 (±10%) |
| Rated Speed (RPM) | 2900 (±10%) |
| Control Input | 0-10V Analog |
| Bearings | Ball Bearing |
| Impeller Diameter (mm) | 45 |
| Impeller Length (mm) | 190 |
| Overall Length (mm) | 250 (±2) |
| Mounting Centers (mm) | 200 (±1) |
| Housing Materials | Iron (Side Plates), Aluminum (Inlet/Outlet Plates) |
| Impeller Material | Aluminum |
These specifications confirm a direct mechanical drop-in replacement for any system designed for the standard 190mm cross flow fan, but with a motor and control system engineered for a higher performance 48V DC application.

Why Longwell for This Application
- Rapid NPI for Custom Voltages: This project required a specific 48V motor configuration. Longwell’s modular design and in-house motor engineering delivered engineering samples in weeks, not months. The entire modification, from request to approved documentation, was completed well within our standard 90-day NPI cycle, a timeline 12-18 months faster than typical European sourcing.
- Cost-Effective Engineering at Scale: By modifying the motor and electronics of an existing, high-volume LWCD-45 series fan, the customer avoided all Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) charges for new housing or impeller tooling. This strategy provides a custom-engineered solution at a price point approximately 35-38% lower than a comparable bespoke fan from a European competitor.
- Integrated Smart Control Platform: The customer’s need for variable speed was met by our standard SmartEC™ controller. The ability to specify 0-10V, PWM, or Modbus RS485 on the same motor platform gives OEMs future-proof flexibility for different product tiers or system architectures without changing the fan’s mechanical design.
- Verified Performance Data: While the drawing specifies the build, all custom Longwell fans undergo performance verification to AMCA 210-16 and ISO 5801 standards in our certified lab. This provides the OEM with a reliable P-Q curve and power data for their specific operating point, eliminating guesswork in system design and guaranteeing performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The standard LWCD-45190MN-06 is 24V. What is the typical lead time for a 48V customization project like this?
A: For a modification of an existing series where housing and impeller are unchanged, the process is fast. Engineering samples for a voltage and speed customization like this can be produced in 4-6 weeks. Full production NPI, including all testing and documentation, is completed within our 90-day framework, far quicker than starting from scratch.
Q: What is the expected performance increase going from the standard 2000 RPM to the custom 2900 RPM?
A: According to the Fan Affinity Laws, a 45% speed increase (from 2000 to 2900 RPM) theoretically increases airflow by approximately 45%. It would also more than double the maximum static pressure capability of the fan. Actual system performance depends on impedance, but this speed increase provides significantly more cooling potential.
Q: The technical drawing specifies a 0-10V control signal. Is PWM or Modbus RS485 control also available for this customized fan?
A: Yes. The LWCD-45190HN-07-00 uses our SmartEC™ motor platform. While this part number was configured for 0-10V analog control, the same motor can be configured with PWM speed control or a Modbus RTU (RS485) interface. This allows for more advanced digital control and diagnostics and can be specified at the beginning of a project.
