Impellers range in size from 60mm to 1200mm in wheel diameter for an ac capacitor type motor and from 30mm to 150mm in wheel diameter for a shaded pole motor. The fan’s motor location can be changed from the right side to the left side by the factory at the customer’s request. Additional modifications allow two impellers to be mounted to a single motor, one impeller on either side of the motor housing. 3rd wire options are also available on all Industrial crossflow fans: signal-rotation detection, signal-frequency generator function as well as temperature control for operating environments where noise and temperature are a consideration. EC cross-flow fan, also known as an electronically commutated cross flow fan, is a type of fan that utilizes an electronically commutated motor (EC motor) for its operation.
Cross-flow fans are designed to produce a wide, uniform airflow. They have a cylindrical housing with an impeller wheel that extends across the diameter of the housing. The impellers of cross flow fans are primarily constructed from aluminum alloy or engineering plastics; they are arranged within a cylindrical housing spanning the width of the fan, thereby forming an air duct. Furthermore, the fan is powered continuously by either DC or AC electricity supplied by a motor.
Air is drawn into the cross flow fans in a direction perpendicular to their axis of rotation and is subsequently discharged in that same direction—specifically, tangential to the fan blades—which is why they are also referred to as “tangential fan.” As the fan blades rotate, the air is propelled and flows laterally. The fan is capable of rotating in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.
In contrast to the airflow direction of axial fans—which run parallel to their axis of rotation—the discharge mechanism of cross flow fans facilitates a more uniform distribution of airflow, making them particularly well-suited for creating air curtains.

● Airflow Direction
For axial fans, the direction of airflow is parallel to the axis of the blades.
In centrifugal fans, gas is drawn in parallel to the main shaft; it is then accelerated by the rapidly rotating impeller, subsequently changes direction, and exits perpendicular to the main shaft.
The airflow direction of cross flow fans is unique. The airflow is perpendicular to the motor axis and passes through the fan impeller twice—first entering radially into the blades from one side, traversing the internal space, and then exiting radially from the other side. Both the intake and exhaust directions lie within the same plane.

The primary advantage of axial fans lies in their ability to deliver extremely high airflow volume, though the air pressure generated is relatively low. Their blade cross-sections typically feature an airfoil profile, directing air in a straight line.
