Customer Requirement
LONGWELL’s long-standing Russian OEM partner promoted a new generation of building management systems (BMS), which requires closed-loop verification of fan efficiency. They need to upgrade the existing Longwell LWCD-60870MN-06 cross flow fan with electronic control and keep its current mechanical structure or aerodynamic performance.
Their original units used a standard 3-wire brushless DC motor. The updated requirement specified the addition of a fourth wire for an FG signal, providing tacho feedback for speed monitoring. GB/T13933-2008 safety standards should be reached, which is the baseline of the target market.
Engineering Solution
LONGWELL provided an integrated solution instead of adding an external speed sensor. This avoids increasing material costs, installation complexity, and potential mechanical failure points. LONGWELL’s team evaluated modifying the existing motor’s internal controller PCB. The existing motor uses Hall effect sensors for commutation. The task was to buffer the signal from one of these sensors and expose it as a clean, open-collector FG output.
The final solution selected a variant of Longwell’s SmartEC™ controller board that already had the FG output functionality. A new 4-core cable harness with a 500 mm length was specified (Red: +24V, Black: GND, White: 0-10V, Yellow: FG).
