How a Spiral Freezer Keeps Air Moving Across Every Tier

A spiral conveyor creates a compact, continuous product path. Its air system must distribute cooled air across the product stack, return it to the evaporator and limit routes that bypass the food.

01 / Application principle

Follow the airflow through the equipment

01

Remove heat from the return air

The evaporator transfers heat from circulating air into the refrigeration system. The fan supplies air motion rather than refrigeration capacity.

02

Distribute the supply

The illustrated side plenum provides a supply path over the stack height. Horizontal flow then crosses the open spaces between product tiers.

03

Limit bypass

Baffles and suitable enclosure details restrict easy shortcuts around the product. They help the intended path compete with other available routes.

04

Maintain circulation during operation

Product loading and evaporator frost alter resistance. Air balance and defrost operation must preserve the required product exposure.

02 / Airflow function

What the fan contributes

  • Circulates air between the evaporator and product stack.
  • Provides pressure rise for coil, plenum and product-path resistance.
  • Supports the specified distribution as loading and frost conditions change.
Air-path check

What interrupts the intended process

  • A large unsealed gap allows air to bypass the product.
  • Uneven or oversized loading restricts some layer passages.
  • Frost-loaded coil passages reduce airflow or upset its distribution.

Prepare the operating conditions

Share your layout and the operating information below. If a value is still unknown, identify it so the next measurement can be agreed before a model is selected.

Match the fan to this air path

LONGWELL axial and centrifugal families provide candidate routes for a circulation-fan evaluation. Match the actual duty and arrangement, then qualify the offered model for freezer temperature, moisture, cleaning and installation. The product image shows family identity only and is not a freezer-approved model selection.

Where it sits

In the evaporator-to-plenum circulation path serving the spiral tiers.

Why consider this configuration

An axial family can be evaluated for circulation when its curve covers coil and tier resistance; freezer qualification is not established.

05 / Equipment validation

Check performance in the assembled equipment

Measure useful flow across representative tiers and loading conditions.
Check the complete fan duty with the actual evaporator and enclosure.
Validate product cooling/freezing performance and defrost recovery in the complete machine.
