How an Air Aspirator Separates Chaff from Grain

A grain aspirator gives particles different paths by exposing an evenly distributed feed to controlled airflow. The useful question is how to remove the light fraction without sending sound grain to the reject outlet.

01 / Application principle

Follow the airflow through the equipment

01

Expose the feed

The feeder distributes material into a curtain so the separating stream can reach the particles.

02

Create aerodynamic separation

Air drag competes with falling. Particle size, shape and density influence whether material rises with the air or continues toward the grain outlet.

03

Recover the light fraction

A separate collection space removes the lifted material from the air. The discharge arrangement must preserve the intended airflow path.

04

Return the air

In a recycling arrangement, the centrifugal fan returns separated air to the aspiration channel. The circuit still needs its designed dust-control provisions.

02 / Airflow function

What the fan contributes

  • Maintains the separating airflow through the product curtain.
  • Supplies the pressure rise needed by the channel and recovery path.
  • Provides a controllable operating range as feed and circuit resistance change.
Air-path check

What interrupts the intended process

  • A dense or uneven feed curtain shields contaminants.
  • Insufficient airflow leaves light impurities in the grain; excessive airflow increases useful-product loss.
  • Deposits or poor light-fraction discharge alter the circuit resistance.

Prepare the operating conditions

Share your layout and the operating information below. If a value is still unknown, identify it so the next measurement can be agreed before a model is selected.

Match the fan to this air path

Evaluate the relevant LONGWELL centrifugal family against the complete aspiration circuit. Supply an operating-point requirement and describe the residual dust at the actual fan inlet. The illustrative product family is an evaluation route rather than a selected grain-processing model.

Where it sits

On the cleaned suction side after chaff separation and the specified filter.

Why consider this configuration

A centrifugal family can be evaluated for the complete aspiration pressure loss; residual dust at its inlet must be defined.

05 / Equipment validation

Check performance in the assembled equipment

Trial representative grain and impurity mixtures at the planned feed rates.
Check both the clean-grain and reject outlets across the permitted airflow range.
Verify the fan duty and cleaning/dust-control arrangements in the complete machine.
