How Air Holds and Dries a Moving Coated Web
A moving web with wet coating on both sides needs support without rubbing its fresh surfaces. A flotation dryer uses air bars above and below the material.
Follow the air through the process
Air forms support near the web
The blower supplies the air bars. Jets form pressure regions near the web, helping support and stabilize it between the bars. Drive rolls elsewhere provide the web’s forward motion.
The same airflow transfers heat
Heated air also transfers energy to the water-based coating. Water evaporates from the surface, and moving air carries that vapor away. Support and drying are linked through the nozzle flow.
Return air closes most of the loop
Air returns around the bars to the air-handling section. Much of it is recirculated and reheated. A controlled exhaust and makeup stream removes moisture from the system.
Air balance protects the moving sheet
Uneven delivery can upset the web position or drying pattern. Nozzle flow, temperature, web tension and line speed must work together. More air is not automatically better coating quality.
Airflow function
- In the dryer air-handling section, recirculating heated air to opposed air bars while a controlled exhaust removes moisture.
- Industrial centrifugal drying-blower families can be assessed for the air-bar pressure and circulation duty. The same nozzle flow supports the web and transfers heat to the water-based coating.
What can change the result
- Uneven air-bar delivery can disturb web position and drying uniformity.
Start with the complete air path
Share your layout and the information you already have. Unknown values can be identified before a configuration is selected.
Match the fan to this air path
LONGWELL industrial centrifugal families include printing and drying applications. Share the air-bar pressure, recirculation flow, temperature and material conditions. The selected blower must be checked with the actual dryer and coating process.
Where it sits
In the dryer air-handling section, recirculating heated air to opposed air bars while a controlled exhaust removes moisture.
Why consider this configuration
Industrial centrifugal drying-blower families can be assessed for the air-bar pressure and circulation duty. The same nozzle flow supports the web and transfers heat to the water-based coating.

Discuss your flotation dryer airflow
Send nozzle pressure and recirculation flow, web width, speed and drying load, air temperature and material compatibility. Ask LONGWELL to review a suitable configuration, fan curve, drawing and control details. A layout or existing fan model can start the review.
A layout, installation photos or your existing model is enough to start the discussion.
