An aspirating smoke detector brings the sample to the sensor.
A small air mover continuously draws samples from holes across the protected space and transports them through a pipe network to a remote sensing chamber. It moves measurement samples; it does not ventilate the room.
Follow the airflow through the equipment.
Sampling holes
Small openings collect air from defined points in the protected space.
Pipe network
Branches transport samples toward the detector; hole and pipe geometry distribute the available suction.
Sensing path
The sample follows the detector's prescribed filter and sensing-chamber route.
Aspirator and exhaust
A compact blower sustains the pressure difference and sends sampled air to the exhaust.
What the fan is responsible for
- Maintain controlled sample flow through the full pipe network.
- Operate continuously and support the detector's airflow-supervision strategy.
- Fit the power, speed, feedback, acoustic and service envelope inside the detector.
Why the route matters
- A blocked sampling hole reduces flow from the intended location.
- A pipe leak draws air from the wrong point and changes network balance.
- A stalled aspirator stops active sampling and must result in a supervised fault.

A LONGWELL route to evaluate: compact brushless centrifugal blowers for OEM evaluation
LONGWELL's public Brushless Blower catalogue lists fume and smoke extraction and includes low-voltage, speed-control and signal-feedback options at family level. This is adjacent family evidence only: it supports OEM evaluation after the detector maker supplies the exact pipe-network duty, transport-time and supervision requirements; it does not identify a qualified ASD aspirator.
Verify the complete equipment, not the fan in isolation
