Longwell EC fans run on brushless DC motors with the controller built in. Plug into AC mains, wire a 0-10V or PWM signal, and the fan follows the load instead of running flat out. Same airflow as a conventional AC fan, at a fraction of the energy cost.

EC stands for electronically commutated. Inside the fan is a brushless DC motor that plugs straight into AC mains — single-phase 230VAC or three-phase 400VAC — with no external drive. A built-in controller rectifies the AC to DC, commutates the windings electronically, and adjusts speed to match demand in real time. That is why an EC fan needs no external VFD.
An EC fan is direct-drive: the impeller, backward- or forward-curved, mounts straight onto the rotor with no belt or pulley. The electronics meter power against actual demand, so the fan draws only what the duty requires. Compared with a throttled AC fan of the same size, it moves the same air for noticeably less power.
Built for continuous service, a typical EC fan uses seven precision-formed blades, IP65 protection, an S1 duty rating and Class B insulation — details that matter when the fan runs 24/7 in a cold room or server rack. Quiet, controllable and low-maintenance, it is now standard in HVAC, refrigeration, data centers, cleanrooms, telecom, medical and industrial equipment.

EC motors run at up to 90% efficiency, so the same airflow takes a fraction of the power an AC fan draws. Most installations see electricity bills drop by up to 50%, with the savings paying back the price difference quickly.
With no carbon brushes to wear out, there is nothing to replace for the life of the motor. No scheduled maintenance, no brush-related failures, no unplanned downtime.
The speed controller is already built into the motor, so you get full speed control without buying, wiring or tuning an external variable-frequency drive.
EC fans run quieter than AC fans to begin with, and the noise level holds steady even while the speed changes — a real advantage in offices, hospitals and residential buildings where noise complaints are costly.
Standard 0-10V and PWM inputs let the fan connect directly to a BMS or IoT controller. Schedule it, drive it from a CO₂ or temperature sensor, or monitor it from a central dashboard.
Lower internal heat puts less stress on windings and bearings, extending motor life. Paired with an S1 continuous-duty rating and IP65 protection, an EC fan keeps running in hot, dusty environments where AC fans age fast.

Server racks and containment aisles run at partial load most of the day. EC fans scale airflow with IT load, cutting fan energy by 40-60% versus fixed-speed units and lowering PUE.

Evaporator fans in walk-in coolers, cold rooms, and display cases run 24/7. EC efficiency and soft start reduce both energy cost and defrost cycles. Condenser fans modulate with head pressure instead of cycling on and off.

Duct fans and silent fans for HRV/ERV systems, bathroom extract, and kitchen range hoods. EC motors hold constant airflow as filters load up — the fan self-compensates instead of silently degrading.

EC gas blowers meter combustion air precisely across the modulation range, keeping the air-fuel ratio stable from low fire to high fire — the basis for condensing boiler efficiency and low NOx compliance.

Fan filter units (FFU) and clean bench applications. EC motors maintain stable airflow as HEPA filters load, with pressure-compensating speed control. Low heat generation keeps room temperature stable.
Learn MoreAn EC (electronically commutated) fan is a brushless DC motor with the driver electronics built in. The onboard controller rectifies AC mains to DC and commutates the windings electronically. No brushes, no carbon dust, no external VFD. Speed is controlled by a 0-10V, PWM, or MODBUS signal.
In most duty cycles, 20-50%. If the fan runs at partial load for more than 30% of the time — typical for AHU, refrigeration, and data center applications — savings can reach 70%. An EC motor holds efficiency above 90% across the speed range; an induction motor’s efficiency collapses below 60% load.
Standard: 0-10V analog, PWM, and MODBUS RTU/RS485. 4-20mA on request. Built-in outputs include a tachometer (FG) signal for speed feedback and an alarm relay. Multiple fans can be wired in parallel to a single control signal, or daisy-chained on MODBUS with individual addressing.
Yes. Wire them to mains and they run at full speed, exactly like an AC fan. The speed control signal is optional — leave it unconnected and the fan defaults to 100%. You can add the control signal later without changing hardware.
Custom-engineered variants (modified voltage, control interface, blade material, connector, or mounting) — 90 days from drawing approval. This includes tooling modification (if needed), prototype build, in-house testing, and customer sample approval. Standard catalog items ship from stock.
No. The variable speed drive is integrated into the motor. This is the main cost and space advantage over retrofitting a variable speed solution to an AC fan, which requires a separate VFD, extra wiring, and panel space.
CE, UL/ETL, CCC on standard products. EC drivers comply with ErP and DOE efficiency regulations. Factory holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BSCI. RoHS, UKCA, REACH supported.
Define your duty point first: airflow, static pressure, and how much of the day the fan runs at partial load. Then pick the fan type — axial for high volume / low pressure, backward centrifugal for AHU plenums, forward centrifugal for compact HVAC, cross flow for wide uniform discharge, duct fan for inline installation. Send us your specs and an engineer will recommend the optimal fan with a performance curve and quotation—usually within 48 hours.
