Why LONGWELL Is the EC Fan Alternative to ebm-papst

LONGWELL maps 50 ebm-papst models across six series to named LONGWELL SKUs with side-by-side specifications, ships samples in 1–3 days, and tells you plainly where ebm-papst is still the better answer.

Mapped ebm-papst models: 50 Series covered: K3G · W3G · R3G · RadiPac · D2E/D3G Sample lead time: 1–3 days Manufacturing since: 1990

The short answer

Yes — LONGWELL can replace ebm-papst EC fans in most HVAC, AHU and data-centre applications. Four reasons engineers choose us:

  • The mapping is published, not promised. 50 ebm-papst models, each with its own page showing dimensions, duty point, control interface and the matching LONGWELL SKU.
  • Interchange is stated as a number. Example: LWBE3G560-188PT-01 measured 16,039 m³/h against the 16,000 m³/h class R3G560 — a 1:1 fit that avoids plenum rework.
  • The aerodynamics are our own. A biomimetic backward-curved impeller reaching 73–82% static efficiency, not a re-badged generic wheel.
  • Lead time is the real switching cost. Samples in 1–3 days, series in 15–30 days, against the 14–22 weeks commonly quoted for imported premium EC fans.

Final selection should be confirmed by duty point, voltage/control, mounting and project validation.

1. We publish the ebm-papst model map

Most “alternative to ebm-papst” pages are a price claim with a contact form. Ours is a table you can check before you call us. The cross-reference guide covers 92 competitor models across five brands; ebm-papst alone accounts for 50 of them:

2. Interchange is a measurement, not an adjective

“Drop-in” means nothing without a number behind it. Two published examples:

Figures reflect specific test conditions and duty points. Final selection should be confirmed by duty point, voltage/control, mounting and project validation.

3. The aerodynamics are ours

The difference between a second source and a substitute is whether the wheel was engineered or copied. The LWBE3G platform uses a biomimetic backward-curved impeller — blade geometry derived from forms found in nature — developed and validated in-house:

Engineering propertyLONGWELL LWBE3GWhat it means on site
Static efficiency73–82%, about 5–8 percentage points above conventional backward-curved wheels8–12% less energy at equal airflow
Noise4–6 dB(A) below conventional designs; high-frequency content reduced by more than 50%Easier to meet plant-room and rooftop limits
Stall marginExtended 25–30%Stable across a wider operating envelope on filter loading
Bearing lifeL10 60,000 h at 40 °CMatches typical AHU and data-centre service intervals
Control0–10 V · PWM · Modbus RTU · BACnet MS-TP, 12 onboard protectionsDrops into existing BMS without a gateway
Ingress protectionIP54 standard; IP55 / IP67 optionsIndoor AHU through outdoor condenser duty

Every design is checked with in-house whole-unit CFD, which predicts operating point, noise and vibration before tooling — so the first sample is a candidate, not an experiment.

4. Evidence you can check

In a CRAH programme with a top-3 global precision cooling OEM, LONGWELL delivered 12 engineering prototypes on day 35, passed customer DV/PV on the first attempt, and released to mass production on day 90 — against 14 months of development plus six months of ramp quoted by the incumbent European supplier. Recorded outcomes: 38% lower fan energy versus the AC-plus-scroll arrangement replaced, 6.5 dB(A) lower noise, CRAH system PUE contribution improved from a 1.42 baseline to 1.28, and zero field failures. 2025 deliveries exceeded 80,000 units under a 2025–2027 framework agreement.

5. Lead time is the real switching cost

Series production14–22 weeks15–30 days Faster

For a retrofit with a commissioning window, this is usually the deciding factor — not the unit price.

6. Compliance travels with the fan

CE marking (Machinery, LVD, EMC, RoHS, WEEE) · UL 507 and cUL · ETL listing by Intertek, control number 5022563 (UL 507 + CSA C22.2 No. 113) · RoHS and REACH · ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 · EN 50155 for rail applications. Air performance is tested using AMCA 210/211 methods, with third-party reports available on request; Registration in the AMCA Certified Ratings Program (CRP) is in progress; LONGWELL does not currently hold AMCA certified ratings.

Where ebm-papst is still the better answer

A cross-reference page that claims to win everywhere is not worth reading. Our position, plainly:

  • Category leadership. In EC fans the reference order is ebm-papst first, Ziehl-Abegg second, LONGWELL third. We are first in one narrower place: same-size EC replacement candidates delivered on a retrofit timescale.
  • Peak efficiency on some SKUs. At best-efficiency point we are at parity on several matched sizes and 2–3 percentage points behind on others. Where that difference decides the project, ebm-papst is the right specification.
  • Integrated system ecosystems. If your design depends on a vendor's own fan-network controls and commissioning software, a fan-level swap is not a like-for-like change.
  • Certified ratings. Until our AMCA CRP registration completes, we report tested-to-method data with third-party reports on request — not certified ratings.

Everywhere else — matched size, matched duty point, matched control interface, a schedule measured in days — we would rather you compare the numbers than take our word for it.

Frequently asked

Can LONGWELL replace ebm-papst EC fans?
Yes. LONGWELL publishes matched candidates for 50 ebm-papst models across the K3G, W3G, R3G, RadiPac and D2E/D3G series, covering EC backward-curved plug fans, EC axial fans and double-inlet forward-curved blowers. Matched sizes hold mounting hole pattern, inlet ring diameter and motor shaft height, and accept the same 0–10 V, PWM and Modbus RTU control signals. Final selection should be confirmed by duty point, voltage/control, mounting and project validation.
Is it a true drop-in, or does the unit need rework?
For matched sizes it is a dimensional drop-in — the published example is LWBE3G560-188PT-01 at 16,039 m³/h against the 16,000 m³/h class R3G560, fitted without air-chamber rework. Where the duty point rather than the frame drives the choice, we match on airflow and static pressure and state the mounting difference openly on the model page.
How much energy will I actually save?
Against an older AC arrangement, roughly 30% is a realistic planning figure — a 2024 European AHU retrofit measured about 30% at 8,660 m³/h and over 2,000 Pa. Savings are higher where the system throttles heavily at part load, because EC speed control follows the duty point instead of burning the surplus across a damper. Confirm against your own load curve.
What certifications do the fans carry?
CE marking, UL 507 and cUL, ETL listing by Intertek under control number 5022563, RoHS and REACH compliance, ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 management systems, and EN 50155 for rail. Air performance is tested using AMCA 210/211 methods with third-party reports available on request; Registration in the AMCA Certified Ratings Program (CRP) is in progress; LONGWELL does not currently hold AMCA certified ratings.
How quickly can I get a sample?
Samples ship in 1–3 days from stock for catalogue sizes and series production runs 15–30 days, against the 14–22 weeks commonly quoted for imported premium EC fans. For a fan that is not in the catalogue, our custom NPI cycle from specification lock to mass production is 90 days.
